Field study post #2

  • Sunny, 46* F
  • Birds all around in trees surrounding pond
  • Tracks of some sort, maybe deer
  • Ducks were swimming, but then got spooked when they heard me
  • Clear patch of water, and algae seems like its hardening due to cold
  • A new tree branch fell into pond since last time
  • Frogs weren't coming up in the water, where as last time they would chronically
  • Weeds surrounding pond got longer
  • Mud was wet therefore made my shoes sink in
Questions for Next Time:

  1. Is the water clearing up more or less?
  2. due to the cold, see if you can find any frogs
  3. Check for increase or decrease of tracks along pond side

    Great questions for next time! Bonus if you watch your algae and look into fall turnover...include a discussion in your next visit's post if you think that's what is happening in your spot.

  Monday November 28 3:10-25 PM Field of day- 7:53-5:14- 9 hours 21 mins Windy 41* F Birds are back Tracks still- there were deer again, one even had its legs in the water Fish were coming up, and also there was a school of 6 ducks swimming Clear patch of water throughout entirety of pond (no algae) The pond surrounded by grass and other vegetation is flooded There is green grass that is popping up in places there weren't before. I find it crazy how there was silence last visit in the deep snow, and when that all went away, deer, ducks,birds, and even fish started popping up again. I would've expected them to go away when the snow first fell.
